Using Wi-fi and Bluetooth for connectivity, the Amazon Echo is a voice command device and audio speaker with functions like question answering, streaming music and controlling household smart devices.

Standing 9.25-inch (23.5 cm) in height, the Amazon Echo is designed like a cylinder speaker with a seven-piece microphone array, speakers that include a woofer/tweeter and an optional remote control.

Voiced in the same fashion as Apple's "Hey, Siri" and Google's "Ok Google", to activate Amazon Echo, the user voices the name "Alexa", followed by a command or question.  Amazon has been developing Echo for at least four years. Echo was part of Amazon’s first attempts to expand its device portfolio beyond the original Kindle E-reader.
